A Yorkshire/France Coupling, Power Cuts, Candle Lit Garden, James Bond

2024 has been a season for our native folk from Yorkshire to get away from the hardy British Summer and head to the South West of France to have their dream wedding in a more temperate climate.  Megan & Phil were our 4th couple of the season from Yorkshire, and what a great time we had.

The mixture of Yorkshire and French folk at this wedding was great, like having a Yorkshire Pudding with Gravy and a Tarte Tatin in the same meal. Both amazing in their own right, and so it proved to be at this wedding, with Megan’s family all coming from Yorkshire, Phil’s mum being French and his dad from the South of England, a great mixture of cultures.

The wedding was held at venue Domaine de Fayolle , and organised by Janet and her team who had a challenging day to say the least with a major power cut! Yet where there’s a will (and a back up plan) there’s a way, ensuring essential services to the kitchen, party room and candle lights providing a romantic ambiance.

It’s not unusual for our couples to feel slightly anxious about their wedding photos, after all, they’re not professional models!  All this posing and perceived stuffiness can really become a cause for concern.  That’s why we meet in advance of your wedding day to do a pre wedding shoot.  This gives us all the chance to get to know each other and go through how we will work together on their wedding day.

We met Megan and Phil at the venue in April where we went through our portrait “framework”, a set of basic poses we then tweak to give us a large range of different but natural looking images.  We have to say, Megan & Phil picked the tips up straight away!  See the photos.

Arriving an hour ahead of the scheduled time, we like to take our time unloading the gear, setting the cameras up and most importantly meeting everyone before we even point a camera in peoples faces.

The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, Megan and her girls were having much fun in the bridal area, whilst Phil and his groomsmen were having a leisurely breakfast on the terrace next to the lawn.

Once we’d done our rounds, we set to work and in our tested and time honoured working style, Jo went to be with Megan and the bridesmaids whilst Chris got the DJI Air 3 drone out for some aerial shots of the venue and some exterior ground shots and internal details.

One of our favourite parts of photographing a wedding next… bride and groom details, using our Sigma 105mm Macro lense and Lumix S5ii camera, makes for a great combination to capture some super close up images.

Chris then headed to be with Phil and his groomsmen for the rest of the morning.

Phil was such a great groom to work with especially after a sip of whiskey or two.  Bond anyone?

Meanwhile in the Bride’s area, Jo was having much fun capturing the fun and friendship between the girls and both mums as they got ready for the ceremony. A little added stress for the wedding party when the power cut happened. A short pause in using straighteners & curling irons brushed aside with a smile from Anya from Vanxycoiff.

Guests arriving were entertained by the amazing Anna from Wedding Musician France along with a nice glass of cold fizz.

Megan’s gown by Élysée  from Perfect Daze Bridal shop in Huddersfield made for some stunning bridal portraits.

Next it was time for Phil to see his beautiful bride for the first time, and Megan to see her dashing husband to be!

Megan walked down the aisle with her mum Dawn to flute music (I can’t help falling in love with you)…

The ceremony went without a hitch, conducted by in house celebrant Janet from the venue.

Followed by the confetti throw…we always love this part of any wedding!

The group photos were well organised.  Megan and Phil gave us a detailed list of who was to be in each shot.  This really helps us to be efficient and our couples not to be stood around too long, especially in the hot mid afternoon sun which can hit 40c+ in July and August.  Helped by the groomsmen to round people up we got through the group photos in good time, which gave us the chance to organise something a little different…a composite bridal party image.

Of course, food takes precedent in France, even during the group wedding photos!

Jo and I are always happy to get creative for our couples.  This is what’s known as a composite image.  We take separate photos of each member of the group using our Magnetmod lighting system then merge them together in Photoshop, this gives us a super cool looking image and something a little different for the wedding album (or wall).

The catering was provided by the in house team at Domaine De Fayolle

Whilst we can plan as much as possible, sunset photo times are totally at the control of the stars, weather and universe.

We were well looked after by creation…the sunset was amazing.  We got some really natural photos of Megan & Phil, who told us just before we started the shoot that Megan was pregnant and no-one else was to know.  We were so happy for them, and you can see from these images how much in love they are!  What a really special moment we were privileged to share with them.

Meals and speeches done, now time to party!

1st stop…cake cutting, again provided by the in house team at the venue.

Time to dance the night away.  Megan and Phils 1st dance was to a classic French song, La vie En Rose by Édith Piaf…then the party started, complete with candle lit tables on the lawn, what a great way to end a fabulous wedding day!

Congratulations Megan & Phil and all the best for the future!
